If you have a Google Chromecast, and live in the US (sorry everyone else), you can rent a movie from Google Play for free! Redeem now, and then rent your movie by April 19, 2016.
There’s some links on this Android Authority write-up, and one of the commenters points out (correctly) that this offer is for any title Google has available for rent, not just the “hey look at these” titles on the list you get taken to. It’s also in the comments that someone else mentions this doesn’t work in Canada.
The message you get confirms the part about the vast selection.
So whether you want to rent the newly available Dracula Untold, or the classic Nosferatu, either will show up with a note that you can apply your rental reward at checkout.
The only downside is not all movies have a rent option, some are purchase only, I’m sorry to say (and find out for myself).
But if it has a rental option, it will be free if you redeem before next April. And if you happen to have more than one Chromecast in your possession, you get a free rental for each one. But if you try to redeem them all at once, you’ll get a message to use your available free rental first.
To get your free rental, make sure your Chromecast is plugged in, and then use the offers link on your browser, or go into the Chromecast app on your phone or tablet, following the instructions below.
You can rent right away, or hold out for something better in the next 10 months. And if you don’t have a Chromecast, you can get one from Google directly for $35 or from Amazon for a little less (it’s entirely possible they reduced the price below $35 so it wouldn’t qualify for free same day shipping on its own), and then redeem the rental anytime before next April.
Enjoy!
