Photograph by @paulnicklen while on assignment for @natgeo //@cristinamittermeier pets a Mola mola sunfish 50 miles off the coast of British Columbia. The sunfish actually approached her hoping that she might help pull off parasites. Cristina declined but the seagulls did not as they fulfilled their symbiotic dance on the open seas. This is an area where the cold nutrient rich water of BC collides with the life sustaining warm water from the Kuroshio current that travels all of the way from Japan.
