Poto keindahan dunia dari mata lensa kamera - March 08, 2015 at 05:54PM

Photo by @mattiasklumofficial for @natgeo. I photographed this Galapagos mockingbird as it inspected a Galapagos land iguana for ticks. The iguana, which can weigh more than eleven kilos (25-pounds), appears to invite the entrepreneurial, almost aggressive little bird to land, sometimes freezing all movement until the bird has finished feeding on the ticks that often cling to the lizard’s neck. Both the bird and the lizard benefit from this symbiotic cooperation. Go to @mattiasklumofficial for more Galapagos images! Since the early 1990’s the Galapagos land iguana has been the subject of an active reintroduction campaign on Baltra Island, where the animals had become extinct. The iguanas’ life expectancy is estimated at up to 60 years. In nature we often find astonishing cooperation. We humans can still learn a lot from how nature works in this regard. “Biomimicry” is a design concept that looks deep into nature’s best ideas and then imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems. The rationale for biomimicry is that animals, plants, and microbes have already found what works after billions of years of research and development. Failures are fossils. #galapagos #mimicry #landiguana #conservation @natgeocreative @mattiasklumofficial @thephotosociety
