Photo @coryrichards After a week off the river, and probably too much time in the city, I'm feeling the need for wild spaces again. Part of this assignment for @natgeo with @intotheokavango is telling the story of water demands...and how development and the need for water tightens the grip on resources. Because of its place in the oil sector, Angola's economy has been booming for the past years. That means a tremendous amount of development and urban sprawl. It also means a tremendous demand for water as cities grow both in numbers and in infrastructure. @markstonephoto and I found our way into a construction site few days ago to photograph a small scale hydraulic drilling operation...watching hundreds of gallons being used to drill a single hole. It could appear as a waste, but it's also very needed to create sound foundations for the huge structures being built. The downstream effects are unclear, but one thing is very clear: water is in high demand across the board in Angola.
