Prior to the outbreak of civil #war in 2013, the Miss Malika contest was one of only a few social exercises that sought to actively build a sense of common national identity among the South's numerous tribes. The South's long uprising against the north saw various tribes employed as proxies of the northern government and, in some cases, acts of egregious violence transpired between them.
