The islanders abandoned St. Kilda in 1930, after living there for perhaps 2,000 years. Dwindling population and the struggles of life on the remote North Atlantic islands took their toll. The British Government sent two ships and in one day took them away. Today the village is a sad and touching reminder of a tough life in these Scottish islands.
