Photograph by @paulnicklen for @natgeo. Kaskawulsh Glacier in Kluane National Park, Yukon. 98% of the glaciers in the Northern Hemisphere are shrinking and receding. You can see the scars on the sides of the mountains showing how thick the glaciers were just twenty years ago. For the first time in recorded history, the entire ice cap of Greenland is melting during the summer months. If it melts completely, global sea levels could rise as much as 20 feet. If the ice cap and shelves in Antarctica melt, global see level rise could be up to 200 feet.
