Photograph by @paulnicklen for @natgeo and @sea_legacy. An Emperor Penguin releases millions of micro-bubbles out of its feathers as it rockets to the surface. These bubbles reduce the friction between its body and the water by creating an air barrier of lubrication. I watched in awe as these 70lb birds actually doubled or even tripled their speeds when the bubbles were released.
