Photo by @ciriljazbec Sea ice surrounds the settlement of Qaarsut in northwestern Greenland. It is situated on the northeastern shore of the Nuussuaq Peninsula with around 200 inhabitants. The first coal mine in Greenland operated between 1778 and 1924 in Qaarsut. Changes in the Arctic will not only affect local people and ecosystems but also the rest of the world, because the Arctic plays a special role in global climate.
