Photo taken by @stevemccurryofficial // I photographed this man in Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan where the Kabul and Kunar rivers meet. Jalalabad is sometimes called the City of Poetry. Every Friday, poets come together in places around the city, and take turns reciting their works. It is said that decades of war have intensified the need to express themselves in the the poetic form which has been recited in Jalalabad for over a millennium.
