@edkashi of @viiphoto is taking over the @thephotographersgallery Instagram feed for one week to coincide with the exhibition #humanrightshumanwrongs. This image is from a body of work that focuses on some of the #humanrights issues fueling the fire in Northern Nigeria. A Muslim Fulani man stands in the doorway of his burnt out home in Attakar, #Nigeria on March 26, 2013. Hisfamily's home was attacked the previous week by Christian Fulanis, with their compound burned and ransacked. By the end of the rampage, more than twenty-five people were dead in this small rural hamlet. Nigeria is evenly split between the primarily Muslim north and a Christian south. Although most people live in harmony, since 2009, a violent Islamic insurgent group, Boko Haram, has become increasingly radical and destructive, targeting Nigerian security forces, schools, fellow Muslims and Christians. They are responsible for the kidnapping of hundreds of school girls over the past year.
