Photograph by @paulnicklen for @natgeo A juvenile elephant seal, just three weeks old, plays in a freshwater stream on South Georgia, Antarctica. When these pups are born, they weigh approximately 50 to 80 pounds. Within three weeks of drinking their mothers rich milk, they can weigh as much as 300 to 400 pounds. At that time, they are weaned by their mothers. Unlike many other seals, these pups seem to seek out and enjoy the company of humans. It was hard for me to photograph this pup because she kept trying to crawl on top of me in order to hang out. It was very challenging to get this image as I was laughing so hard while backing up to create the space necessary to shoot. This is the last image in our seal series.
