Photo by @petekmuller/@prime_collective. A traditional healer prepares to conduct a form of exorcism on a young girl in the village of #Meliandou, in southern #Guinea. Meliandou was the site of the first cases of #Ebola virus during the West Africa outbreak. Frightened and without scientific understanding, many in Meliandou believed the deaths were caused by witchcraft and turned to traditional healers. The healers pictured here arrived during the first wave of Ebola-related deaths and returned a year later to complete a cycle of treatment aimed at flushing out malicious spirits. See this image and many others in our story on the search for the reservoir host of Ebola virus in the July issue of National Geographic Magazine. #Africa #copyrighted
