Photo by @edkashi/ @viiphoto: In the tiny village of Tsiharoa, #Madagascar, local women and kids leave their reeds out to dry after coating them in a local clay, which hardens them for making fencing, baskets and mats. Kashi states; “I witnessed women neck-deep in muddy pools, brushing their teeth with sand, or with white hands covered in the clay that dries the mahampy reeds used for weaving; a very visual representation of their literal and fragile connection with the earth.” Ed Kashi’s project on the people of Madagascar was created on a 2010 Prix Pictetcommission This image was featured in the “National Geographic Masters of Photography” course, that was recently on DVD and online. Taught by @NatGeophotographers, Ed Kashi is included in the roster of instructors for this educational resource. In his segments, Kashi addresses the topics of “Engaging the World” and “Raising Awareness”. For more information, visit: natgeocourses.com/mastersphoto #natgeocourses @thephotosociety
