I went into this little bay early one morning and found the dolphins socializing, with several of them playing a game of picking up leaves that fall into the water from trees near the beach. The dolphins grab the leaf with their tail or dorsal and pectoral fins, swim with it for a while, then drop it allowing another dolphin to catch it. Game play like this is one of the behaviors researchers study to better understand dolphin intelligence. The May issue of @natgeo features a cover story about dolphin cognition.
