Sea ice scientists preparing to secure a GPS unit into the Arctic sea ice, by photographer @nickcobbing. This picture was made in severely cold temperatures; the scientists covered their faces to prevent frostbite. In the background is the polar research vessel Lance, frozen into the surface of the Arctic Ocean, our temporary home and base which enabled the research to be conducted safely. My voyage through the sea ice is over for now and looking back at the images, it feels like a dream. This is where the ‘real' work starts, editing, captioning and shipping all the material to Washington for further editing and selection to begin. Look out for the upcoming story about Arctic sea ice in @natgeo magazine. Thanks to @oceanseaicenpi for all the assistance with this assignment!
