Ramen noodles can make a great snack or cheap meal, but Chef David Chang—lover and master of all things ramen—discovered another ingenious use for the deep fried noodles: A perfectly crispy, flavorful breading for fried chicken or fish. Here's how it works.
David Chang is a chef and entrepeneur, known for the Momofuku line of restaurants (one of which is a ramen bar with some of the best noodles I've ever eaten.) In the video above, he shows you how to turn ramen noodles into a crispy, salty, spicy breading for fried chicken that you can easily make at home. Since the noodles are already cooked, all you need to do is spice them up and use it as breading for your fried chicken the same way you would use bread crumbs.
In a second video (below), he shows you how to make ramen encrusted skate using a packet of ramen. For the skate, he even uses the seasoning packet, just because it has the salt and some of the spices he wants for the final dish.
All in all, for all of the purported evils of instant ramen, the stuff is affordable and actually really useful, even if you're not planning on eating it the way the instructions on the packet suggest. Some spices and seasoning and a little creativity go a long way. Hit the links below for the specific recipes for each of these.
